Mosquito

Description

Mosquitoes are in the family of Culiciades, and are actually a type of fly that has a thin body, thin wings and long legs. The male mosquito does not have mouthparts that penetrate and will feed on nectar like other insects. While female mosquitoes also feed on nectar, they use their mouthparts to puncture skin and feed on vertebrate’s blood. The blood is used to supplement a female mosquito’s diet with essential proteins and iron which she uses, along with carbohydrates derived from plant nectar, to assist in the development of her eggs.

Importance

Mosquitoes are typically a problem if you have standing water on your property. They breed on or near water and only need a small amount in which to lay eggs. Areas that you are likely to find mosquito activity include bird baths, decorative ponds, buckets, tires, rain gutters and even children’s swimming pools.

Mosquito bites are annoying and result in itching, swelling and redness. While mosquitoes may seem harmless they are known carriers of many serious illnesses that can be transmitted to people, including West Nile virus, malaria and dengue fever. Domesticated dogs may also be exposed to heart worm by mosquitoes.

Control Methods

Reducing the mosquito population on your property can be difficult to accomplish without the help of professionals. Guardian Pest Solutions offers highly effective mosquito control that is sure to help alleviate the pest problem.

Do-it-yourself sprays and treatments are not always effective in resolving mosquito problems and may contain chemicals that are harmful to people and pets if mixed improperly. Guardian professionals are trained in identifying mosquito infestations and breeding sites and will implement effective measures to control mosquito populations on your property.

The health and safety of our customers, their family or employees is important to us and that is why we use products that are EPA approved for pest control use. All of our pest control professionals are registered and licensed by the state or local jurisdictions where we provide service to ensure proper application.

Mosquitoes can be very difficult to prevent. Reducing areas of standing water on your property will help, but may not be completely effective and that is why you should contact Guardian Pest Solutions at the first sign of a problem. Our solutions are designed to reduce the mosquito problem on your property.
