The mice are coming! The mice are coming!
If you haven’t already done so, it’s time to seal up your home to prevent mice from making your home their new home. If mice find your home a suitable area to live with plenty of food, water and shelter, their potential reproductive capabilities are very impressive! If their living conditions are good each female can produce four to seven pups per litter following a gestation period of about 19 days. A female will typically produce eight litters in her lifetime, although if conditions are really good, she is capable of giving birth to a litter every 24 to 28 days!
Young mice are sexually mature within 5-8 weeks, making the possibility for a population explosion very possible. That is why exclusion and prevention methods are the best means for controlling mice. Mice can gain entrance under doors with as little as a ¼” gap. If they can get their head through, they can get the rest of their body through. It is also important to remember that mice are 3 dimensional in that they are climbers, so don’t just look for holes and gaps at ground level.
A little prevention today will go a long way in protecting your property from these pesky little critters.
