Bed Bugs 101
Did you know that one in five Americans has encountered bed bugs in their home or knows someone who has?
What are bed bugs?
Adult bed bugs are reddish-brown, roughly ¼” long, and are flat. The pests are found worldwide and are thought to have come to the U.S. from Europe in the 17th century. Today, bed bugs are found in all 50 states. The pests primarily feed on humans, but they can also feed on warm-blooded animals including family pets. Bed bugs can survive for several months without eating and can withstand a wide range of temperatures, from nearly freezing to 122°F.
How to remove bed bugs:
The most effective chemicals are no longer environmentally feasible, and the pests may be resistant to modern chemicals. Guardian Pest Solutions is on the leading edge of bed bug-fighting technologies and techniques. Our trained canines can quickly sniff out the source of the problem and identity infected areas. Then, our expert technicians use Temp-Air Certified thermal remediation, a technique that uses high heat—not chemicals—to tackle every stage of the bed bug life cycle.
How to help prevent bed bugs:
Regular inspections are the best line of defense to help you avoid an infestation. Check areas where pets sleep for signs of bed bugs such as pepper-like stains, molted bug skins, and white, sticky eggs. Never bring second-hand furniture, especially mattresses and box springs, into your home or college dorm without thoroughly examining it for signs of the pest.
