Asian Lady Beetle: The End-Of-Autumn Pest

Posted in Bugs & Vermin, DIY Pest Solutions, Entomology, Pest Control, Uncategorized

Autumn is a favorite season for many people, especially those living in the Midwest. The season brings a cool, crisp breeze and brilliantly colored leaves to the North Central region of the United States. Another usual autumn sight is of Asian Lady Beetles or ladybugs, as they’re often called, inside or outside of your home.

What Are Asian Lady Beetles?

While looking harmless, Asian Lady Beetles are a common pest in Minnesota, Wisconsin, and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Ladybugs sense the drop in temperature during autumn and begin searching for a warm place to hibernate. Homes and cabins are ideal environments for the pests, as they can hide and hibernate inside the walls or in the attic. Then on a warmer winter day or in early spring, the pests sense the warmth and try to get outside, which leads to what appears to be a sudden Asian Lady Beetle infestation.

How To Prevent A Ladybug Infestation

The best way to prevent an Asian Lady Beetle infestation is to stop the pests from entering your home or cabin.

  1. Analyze the outside of your property and check for any cracks, holes, ripped screens, and other openings.
  2. Make the required repairs, including sealing openings, fixing screens, and filling holes with foam filler.
  3. Contact a professional pest management company to perform an exterior barrier treatment. Guardian Pest Solutions‘ Asian Lady Beetle exterior barrier treatment is effective in preventing ladybugs from entering your home or cabin.

How To Treat An Asian Lady Beetle Infestation

Are you seeing ladybugs inside your home or suspect you may have an infestation? Here’s what you can do:

  • Contact your pest management professional and request an inspection. Your pest management provider will determine the best plan for treatment. Guardian Pest Solutions’ Service Specialists are trained to identify and treat all pest problems, include ladybug infestations.
  • Do-it-yourself treatment methods help contain Asian Lady Beetles but are not a permanent solution, especially for a ladybug infestation. Here are a few things you can do:
    • Vacuum the beetles. Remember to empty the vacuum bag after using it.
    • Sweep the insects with a broom into a dustpan. Release the pests outdoors.
