Help Save our Pollinators!
There is increasing evidence that insect pollinators (i.e. honey bees and bumble bees) are disappearing at alarming rates.
A decline in pollinators affects us all. Reversing this trend is important to the ecosystem as well as to human health.
Here are some things we can all do to help.
- Plant and create new pollinator habitats by choosing plants pollinators love. Plant a variety of flowers of different colors and shapes that bloom at different times to provide continuous pollen and nectar sources.
- Do not disturb areas where pollinator activity is already present such as ground nests and flowering plants.
- When using an insecticide in your yard choose a product that won’t harm bees and still be effective. Look for the bee hazard icon, as shown below, on the product labels. Then follow the application restrictions found in the Directions for Use to protect pollinators.
- Lastly, spread the word!
