Fast Facts

  • Transferred by humans, bed bugs have seen a resurgence in the last decade.
  • Bed bugs aren’t picky: they’ll thrive in apartment complexes, five-star hotels, hospitals, schools, theaters and in your home.
  • Almost the perfect pest, bed bugs are small, they hide well, they’re prolific, and they only feed when their hosts—us—are sleeping.
  • The most effective chemicals are no longer environmentally feasible, and bed bugs may be resistant to modern chemicals.
  • Their pin head size eggs are white/cream in color and are glued in hidden areas such as thin crevices in box springs.
  • During the 35-48 days in which they mature, bed bugs need at least 5 blood meals from their host.
  • Females can lay as many as 400 eggs during their 9-18-month lifespan.
  • Adult bed bugs are reddish-brown, roughly ¼” long, and are flat.
